An ancient Russian town, Kolomna is situated 100 kilometers away from Moscow. Here one can see the buildings of Joint - Stock Company KANAT which history started more than 200 years ago.

The history of the enterprise is closely connected with the history of navy, merchant and fishing fleets of Russia.

Rope making is one of the oldest industries in Russia. For the first time Kolomna rope- makers were mentioned in the second half of the XVII century. They took part in rigging the first Russian warship “The Eagle” at the shipyard near the village of Dedinovo, not far from Kolomna on the Oka river. Tsar Peter the Great came here more than once.

As an industrial enterprise, the Joint - Stock Company KANAT was originated from the rope-making factory belonging to Kolomna merchant Rodion Khlebnikov. There is a special mark on the old map of Kolomna dated 1773.

For a long time rope - making technology was rather primitive. The factory had very poor production equipment and processed mostly hemp and jute fibres.

The year 1963 may be considered as the date of the second birth of the factory. Then it was submitted to the Ministry of the Fisheries of the former Soviet Union.

Now it is the a big, modern Company equipped with the most modern winding, braiding, cord-and-rope making machinery. The extruding lines produce polypropylene film yarn, polysteel, polyethylene and polypropylene monofilament. The machinery and equipment are constantly renewed. The machinery is bought in Italy, Germany, Denmark, Japan.

Together with the processing of traditional polyamide yarns the Company processes polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester and combined yarns of various modifications: film yarns as well as multifilament and monofilament.

The Company increases its production capacity and masters manufacturing new type of products. At present the company’s production capacity is more than 10000 tons per year. The range of products is great (wide): twines, braided cords, including those with the floating and lead filings, twisted and braided ropes of various diameters and nettings.

Since 1975 the Joint - Stock Company KANAT participates in international fishery exhibitions. Its products always receive high rating of experts. KANAT’s exhibition at the latest world fishing exhibition at 1997 in Vigo (Spain) was at the center of attention of foreign firms.

Russian sailing vessel “Krusenshtern”, which made round-the-world voyage in1995 - 1996 was supplied with Kolomna ropes They also were demonstrated at the exhibition in the Tretyakov Art Gallery organized by “Matador” magazine.

Joint-Stock Company KANAT is the major supplier of ropes and twines to all fisheries of Russia and CIS countries. KANAT also sells its products to Great Britain, Holland, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Norway, Finland, Iran, Turkey and other countries. They completely satisfy the demands of the fishermen.
